Collective Visions: 1967-1997 (Book 4)
Collective Visions: 1967-1997—Artists and works selected by George Ellis and Tom Klobe. Editing by Lisa Yoshihara. Design by Clarence Lee. Published by State Foundation on Culture on the Arts, 1997.
As was the case with the previous book, the artists featured here created works that were purchased through the Art in Public Places Program of the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. The works illustrated in this catalogue are pieces that were selected by jurors for inclusion in the collection of artworks available for display in State offices and other public spaces. The funds for these purchases were provided by the State’s Art-in-State-Buildings Law. As with the previous book, most of the artists are represented by one photo at the top of the page and a brief biography at the bottom of the page. Many of the biographical notes include a brief comment by the artist. The sequencing of the artists in the book appears to have been decided primarily for reasons having to do with the aesthetics and flow of the book. The genres of art are mixed together in no particular sequence; however, the book concludes with the presentation of a group of commissioned works. The book has an alphabetical index in the back, but the order of presentation in the book is as follows: Jean Charlot, Satoru Abe, Juliette May Fraser, Jean Williams, Juanita Vitousek, Kauka de Silva, John Kjargaard, Robert Hamada, Yvonne Cheng, Shirley Russell, Francis Haar, Anne Kapulani Landgraf, Meali‘i Kalama, Susan Hansen, Sueko Kimura, Doug Young, David Ulrich, Shigeru Miyamoto, Edward Stasack, Richard Cooke, Allyn Bromley, John Kelly, Ron Kowalke, Lloyd Sexton, Andrew Metzgar, Helen Gilbert, Shirley Hasenyager, Randy Hokushin, Juanita Kenda, Paul Yardley, Todashi Sato, Charles Higa, Ben Norris, Gary Rosine, Murray Turnbull, Keichi Kimura, Reiko Brandon, Wayne Levin, Isami Doi, Tetsuo Ochikubo, Hiroki Morinoue, Yukio Ozaki, Hanae Uechi Mills, Michael Tom, Betty Ecke, Toshiko Takaezu, Frank Beaver, John Young, Louis Pohl, Don Yacoe, Jeffrey Dunn, Lee Chesney, Sally French, Joseph Feher, Sayoko Kay Mura, Sanit Khewhok, Carl Fieber, Reuben Tam, Wayne Miyata, Richard Nelson, Mark Hamasaki, Jan Becket, John Wisnosky, Ward Davenny, Stan Tomita, Karen Kosasa, Paul Kodama, Esther Shimazu, Howard Farrant, Ruthadell Anderson, Marcia Morse, Harry Tsuchidana, Kenneth Bushnell, David Kuraoka, Barbara Engle, Wendy Kim Messier, Cora Yee, Suzanne Wolfe, Timothy Ojile, Gail Bakutis, Renee Iijima, Franco Salmoiraghi, Don Dugal, Dorothy Faison, Rick Mills, Laura Smith, Romolo Valencia, Glenn Yamanoha, Dean Oshiro, Alice Kagawa Parrott, Sally Fletcher-Murchison, Vicky Chock, Ira Ono, Frank Sheriff, Jonathan Hamblin, Pam Barton, Pat Hickman, John Takami Morita, Wayne Miyamoto, Michael Harada, Fred Roster, Ann Beeson, Dodie Warren, Alan Leitner, Winnifred Hudson, Les Biller, J.
