Artists/Hawai‘i (Book 3)
Artists/Hawaiʻi—edited by Joan Clarke and Diane Dods, curated by Tom Klobe and Duane Preble, photographs by Dana Edmunds (and many others). Introduction by James Jensen. Published by University of Hawaiʻi Press, 1996.
This volume covers each artist by means of a portrait photograph (often showing the artist next to or at work on one of his or her pieces of art). There is one sidebar that gives the artist an opportunity to mention artists or mentors who have had an influence on his or her art, another sidebar that gives the artist an opportunity to name famous artists he or she would like to have met, and another sidebar that lists solo exhibitions and other bio data. The bulk of the article is a statement by the artist concerning his or her career. Generally each artist’s work is represented by four photographs, all in full color.
The artists are placed in the book in alphabetical order: Satoru Abe, Allyn Bromley, Gaye Chan, Dorothy Faison, Sally French, Alan Leitner, Rick Mills, Hiroki Morinoue, John Takami Morita, Marcia Morse, Timothy Ojile, Fred Roster, Franco Salmoiraghi, Todashi Sato, Esther Shimazu, Laura Smith, Toshiko Takaezu, Masami Teraoka, Michael Tom, Roy Venters, Suzanne Wolfe, and Doug Young.
